Some alternatives to Office that I have found are:
1) OpenOffice.org is a group of office software including "word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more." The website shows how easy and accessible OpenOffice is. It as absolutely free program that many people can benefit from.
2) WordPerfect Office is a form of office software, created by Corel, that can be used by both home users and business users. Things included in the software are newsletter, report, budget, slideshow and spreadsheet programs. The user can also create PDF's that are easily shared with other people. Note taking programs and online tools are just another benefit of WordPerfect.

3) AppleWorks 6 has the same features as of Office program but more refined and easier to use. The new presentation program provided with AppleWorks 6 exceeds that of Microsoft Office. It is only available for Windows and Macintosh but also "supports other file formats including those from earlier Claris branded versions of the product, Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, text files, HTML files and dozens of others."

4) NewDealOffice claims to be an easy to use software that includes word processing, e-mail, drawing, database programs and many more. NewDealOffice is focused more on doing office tasks than home tasks but with the low cost, NewDealOffice is an easy, less expensive way to go.

5) StarOffice is another great alternative to Office mainly because it is inexpensive. It has all of the features comparable to Office such as spreadsheets, word processor, databases, presentations and much more. The price and features of StarOffice make it a great alternative to Office. http://www.sun.com/software/staroffice/index.jsp
